1. If they weren't twenty dollars for three, and I hadn't already bought
estrellada her Xmas present: mirror silhouettes (stars and swallows). Maybe for a birthday. Maybe for ME, even.
2. Sometimes I wish I had a ferreals sekrit journal for posting things I think are funny and true, but would probably just worry people I know IRL.
3. I had this corny impulse to record a voice entry of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," but, you know, the thing about impulses is that they're temporary. So have some Kermit thee Frog instead.
4. 'Kay, I was totally not in the mood for what #1 and #2 on my radio presets were playing on my way home, so I put on the Virgin Radio re-cast (with Ryan Seacrest, zomfg), and Adam Lambert was playing, and I started daydreaming about a leatherdaddy!Patrick/"Subtlety"-verse snippet where Pete changes his Patrick-specific ringtone to "For Your Entertainment," because he's a little shit and also because it's funny, and then he can't find his phone at Patrick's house one day, so Patrick calls it, and some epic D: and :||| ensue. And then I remembered I was driving and decided to focus on that instead. THE END.
5. Lololol, okay, the keyword for this icon is "and an ipod," and I just realized that I DID get an iPod for Chanukah.
...So where's my Chris Pine?
...Maybe that's my answer to the eternal "what movie should I watch??? The house and all its media are belong to MEEEE tonight" question. Since I've already taken care of the personal entertainment and made a big mess, oops, not.
6. Anyway. I'm seeingRobert Downey, Jr. Better Have a Swordcane in Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law's Fantastic Fucking Eyebrows (I watched Sleuth the other day, oh my shit) tomorrow with my big brother, and you're not, so there. Well. Maybe
moizissimo is. With her big brother, who is probably actually related to her. Still. The vast majority of you are not doing anything resembling what I am doing tomorrow, and what I am doing tomorrow is awesome. Also, I have pre-purchased the tickets, because being prepared is awesome as well. So there. I win. \o/

1. Is there any good Criminal Minds fic? Seriously. *despair*
2. Second curry is rather more successful: kabocha squash, carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, mushrooms, a small red chili, shallots, gaaaaarlic, coconut milk, tomato paste, and Mrs. Patak's tomato and coriander curry paste. ALL THE NOMS ARE BELONG TO ME.
3. Priority two for the new apartment is accessibility (priority one is at least in-building laundry, 'cause I'm a lazy shit, sry).
4. I'm watching s2 Everwood right now, and spent a not-inconsiderable amount of time last night looking for this Bright/Ephram fic, 'cause I just needed to read it and couldn't remember the title. Sigh. That fandom produced some quality shit, guys (I'm not talking about me, ffs).
5. "Red Heart" - Hey Rosetta!. Sort of Wintersleep-ish, but more upbeat. Were you born a closed book, full of secret lines and bound so tight? Or did you learn to lock it, as not to break your spine? Oh, you were bound so tight!
6. RIGHT, WAIT, okay, can we talk about how I'd like a novel about this photo (NSFW on account of visible erection. Also, watersports)? Sigh, sigh. *chinhand*

1. I'm really, really sad I can't buy MCR's version of "All I Want For Christmas Is You." Sure, Canada has equal marriage, but I want the sooooong.
2. I like David Gray. I'm a fan. I often forget this, and then something comes on the radio and I'm like, "Dude! David Gray is pretty awesome!"
3. "Document" got recced a bit (by someone who's not on my flist!) and I realized that I never actually posted it anywhere but the Genderbend BB comm, lol. Is it too late to do that, do you think? *eyeroll*
4. I want to be posting snippets of the LTROI AU, but I'm not only writing it in my usual piecemeal but also a little bit backwards, and the only completed scenes of any length are at the end, and I don't want to ruin it for you. So no snippets yet. Maybe some snarky vampire!jailbait!Patrick later this weekend, though.

getyourwordsout. 42086 words so far, with one month left. My pledge was 200K. I really thought I wrote more than that without special effort? I think I haven't written as much as I have in the past, though. I'm not in any first-flush fandom, and I think I might be one of those annoying fertile/fallow writers, where I have long periods of productivity (not necessarily periods of finishing things, mind you) and long periods of not so much productivity. Oh well. At least I'm poetry-ing again. I'd be content with writing and completing one piece of fiction a year if I could write poetry at the pace/level I did in college. Insert whiny rant about why-oh-why did my ex-meds' permanent brain chemistry alteration have to happen to my words. WHY OH WHY.
ANYWAY. I'm babbling, so I'm gonna go. Laters, gators.

Updating for the sake of it? I have a lot of things to do in the meat world, and I don't want to do any of them (not because they are unpleasant, but because I just generally don't like doing things), but the internet is failing at distraction (thanks!).
Oh, wait, these things:
+Sainthood is amazing;
+I bought the makings of a Chanukiya yesterday, whoo;
+I'm andchimeras at AO3, with BJ Garrett, allcanadiangirl, thepurpleswitch, and azurejay as registered pseuds. I think that's all of them, anyway. No works yet (see above, re: general dislike of doing things);
+Butchmilf is the cooking video blog of a friend of a friend of a friend, and she is adoooooorable. Also, informative!
And a question: if the tattoo I want to get is a ridiculously simple colour band around one arm, do I need to go to the Best People Evars, or would the Generally Highly-Recommended (Just Not By My Bodymod Guru) Folks be okay?

eta: 0. Because this is actually the most important thing: I would really, really like my BND package to arrive tomorrow or even on release day. That would be stupendous. Avoiding the spoilers is already killing me. Shipping gods, hear my plea. (ALSO, Patrick Stump, you're ridiculous[ly lovely and awesome]. I feel your nickname-correcting pain so, so deeply.)
1. I just completed my random, month-long review of Sports Night. Seriously, guys. Seriously. I miss that show so much (I miss Dan, a lot, and also Casey a little bit, and Dana! And Jeremy and Natalie's Jeremy/Natalieness. And I don't like to think about how much I miss Robert Guillaume in general, so), and I didn't even watch it when it was on TV. Why don't they make 'em like that anymore?
2. I signed up to get an AO3 beta account. I want to state for the record that I find the OTW's name to be pretentious and annoying, but I'm interested in seeing and being part of a resurgence of archive-based fandom.
Also, while characterizing transformative works-based fandom as a "predominantly female culture" is technically true, I don't like it. That's a personal thing, and I doubt it (the descriptor or my feelings about it) will change. I don't necessarily think the phrase needs to change (see above re: technically true), but I do think it's important for trans and non-female fans to speak their presence when the phrase and its less-kind kin get thrown around.
3. I'm going to buy a corkboard tomorrow. Because I need it for planning stories (I have a three-page skeleton outline for the LTROI AU, oh my god) and my life. Being/getting organized scares me, because it presents huge potential for failure, and also huge potential for success. Nonetheless, important. I think I need a new hammer, too.
4. "Breaking, Standing" - ¡Forward, Russia! (Because other bands don't have enough punctuation in their names.) "When it weighs too much, think of it as seven times the weight! But when it costs too much, consider it, but don't come to me for aid."

1. Matthew would like to know if we want him to not sign autographs at all, or sign autographs WITHOUT HUGGING SRY!!! after the shows on tour next month. Because he has an atrocious immune system and just got over pneumonia, but also has a long-(long-long-long-)standing tradition of doing hxc meet&greets at his bus after shows.
He's so, so dumb, oh my god. (eta: MG.org blog entry edited.)
2. I need an "...BUT I AM NOT YOUR PARENT." icon, or something. For when I feel compelled to give people common sense advice they're not gonna fucking follow anyway. Such as: don't fucking greet the germ-ridden public outside, at night when it is cold, at the onset of flu season (which includes, for extra spice, a superflu designed to kill you with ninja-stealth), when you're recovering from pneumonia. And when you're obviously not going to quit smoking again. And when you get sick every fucking fall, winter, and spring. BUT I AM NOT YOUR PARENT. Never mind me.
3. I feel maybe a lot of conversations in my life would go much faster if I had that on a t-shirt, actually. If we put the appropriate logo on it, I could even wear it to work. Awesomesauce.
4. I made kickass tacos last night. Let it be known: I make amazing fucking tacos.
5. Did not get picked for a jury today. I'm kind of sad about it. I'm such a nerd. (Typo: suck a nerd. Yes, that too.)
6. I've been listening to a lot of Jay-Z lately? The Black Album and the new one, mostly, because I'm generally allergic to concept albums (except for MCR and MG/B), even when they involve Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe (goddamn, I need to get that movie on DVD).
7. I'm embroiled in something messy and complicated with either "FUCKING AMAZING!!! \o/" outcome or "...shit, that was a stupid thing to do, dude" outcome (this sentence could also apply to current season of SPN, y/n?). I'm doing surprisingly well, anxiety-wise, mostly because, for reals, I have good friends (and family) who want me to have nice things. Also, being
estrellada's brother has taught me quite a bit about rolling with situations where the outcome ratio is equal parts amazing:stupidity.

Did you know you can make pie from carrots? And it tastes and looks just like punkin pie? For reals! It's pretty awesome.
2. Okay, I just listened to the full/updated version of "Alpha Dog," and it's gonna take a few more tries, I think. Also, can we (not, actually) discuss how including a lock of a certain dude's (whose name starts with "P" and ends with "ete Wentz") hair in the Super Deluxe Vibrating Edition of the greatest hits collection is creepy as fuck? Christ on a cracker. Never change, Fall Out Boys. Never change. *facepalm*
3. Lastly, because I have to go to bed in a second, I re-found an amazing semi-old skool-sounding Canadian hiphop track and I wish I could buy it somewhere (iTunes faaaaail). Ugh. Love this song. "Great Minds" - DJ Murge with Ishkan and Just B. "If you didn't want it, motherfucker, what you asking it for?"

I don't really know what to do with myself now? I tried watching the Melrose Place re-pilot, but a commercial for Jennifer's Body came on and I had to e-mail Tillie about it (we like GingerSnaps? And I like faily horror movies?), and then I got distracted by the internet. So I guess I'll try to watch it at nine.
Though, Pete, I don't know if I'm that dedicated to making sure Bx can eat my advertising dollars (this also applies to seeing Jennifer's Body, as Decaydance appears to own half the artists on the soundtrack).

1. I've been the Acting Chief Job Steward for the last two weeks, and have a week-ish left to go, and I've come to the conclusion that I am a really, terribly ineffective union representative. People either don't know me or don't like me (I'm in the office right now, and somebody just walked up to the door, made eye contact, and walked away, wtf? Whatever, I don't like her either). I've never been invested or interested in being popular, but it still stings when I try something new and nobody likes me this time either (except for the other three or four people at the office, but they don't count. And at least one of them wants in my pants, so he doesn't count twice).
2. I was thinking the other day that IOH has definitely fallen to the bottom of my personal FOB album ranking, but then I put it back on Patrick the iPod, and, well, okay, it's still #4 of four, but! I quite enjoy it nonetheless, and it still totally has some of my favourite lyrics ever. I'm newly committed to having some art (body or otherwise original) around "I could write it better than you ever felt it." And the non-album tracks are so amazing.
3. Do you really care what my FOB album ranking is? Seriously? Okay, whatever: FAD (probably because it's new), FUCT (because it is sooooo dark omg, and also it was my first one, so I'm attached), TTTYG (lol baby band), IOH (idek what's going on half the time). Or you could see it as two tiers of two-way ties, also. I'm bad at making decisions, guys.
4. Uh. General fandom time? I just wanted to give a big word up to this post about commenting on kink fics, or fics with kink in them. ( Two cents, I have them. )
Anyway.

I just re-watched the House episode where Kutner dies. I don't even know, guys. Have some music.
Despite the irreverent icon (nuns with guns!), this is totes a For Serious mix, just, you know, my spirituality is sometimes less than For Serious (well, duh, my brother is a coyote, hello). ANYWAY. On to it.
( i'm hearing whispers of an infinite yes: the spiritual manifesto mix. )

Oh god, I'm listening to the Rutter Requiem and having serious high school flashbacks. I think I'll stick with Rufus Wainwright's "Agnus Dei," thx.
Anyway. It's been years since we had a Q&A All-Star, so here:
Also, also, I have a posting date for "Document."

Q: I can't help but laugh and simultaneously feel bad for Patrick. How is he doing? Did his mom ground him?P.S. Tell him that he's gotta pay up, but that we all love him and want his safe and not doing anything illegal. hahaha. So, wait for it, I want a Public Enemies AU. Patrick is Dillinger, Pete is Billie, but the stalking is reversed and Pete becomes a bank robber too (and is pretty faily at it, because that's what Pete does in AUs). WHAT? It totally works. Get on it, fandom!

1. "Last Parade," the first single from Vancouver, is streaming here (I question Matthew's avowed dedication to the piano when he uses such a shitty-sounding fake one, tbh; also, you can really hear the change in his voice since he's taken up smoking again--much moreso than on Hospital Music; otherwise, ♥♥♥). The album is out October 6, whee! Of course I'm out of town that week, but still. \o/
( lyrics. )
2. The most recent post on MatthewGood.org is a TRMS clip about Republican, far-right, corporate-funded intimidation in the US healthcare reform fight. Ugh, it makes me mad.
3. I had a dream the other night that I wanted to share with everybody, because it was really weird and interesting, but now I can't remember what it was. Oh well.
4. BJ's Succinct & Awesome Movie Revue for District 9: Huh. That was pretty cool. I am, coincidentally, re-reading Schindler's List right now (what? Doesn't everyone compulsively re-read books about the Shoah?), so I have a lot of thinkity thoughts about things but they have no place in a succinct movie review. One major facet of the ending doesn't make a lot of sense to me, and I'm not sure I trust the filmmakers enough to have made the right decision on it. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it thoroughly. This movie has deep roots in my favourite kinds of scifi/specfic, and I loves it.
5. Hokay, time to get going. I have a union meeting in a little bit, and then I have to pick my work for September through December. WHOO.

Note to self to download when you get home: random FUCT demo (sounds FUCT demo era, anyway).
Also, when I get paid on Friday, I'm preordering the FOToyworks comic. Dudes, I don't really pay for comics anymore (unless I want a hardcopy, and I defs do want a hardcopy of this one). My money just loves Pete Wentz and wants to be with him forever, what can I say.
The end! Have a nice day!

1. First, bandomish thing. "Pretty Lies" by The Dudes. Listen (at Last.fm, also). Now imagine this: PVStump x Glambert cover. Yes? Yes, I think so. *wise nod*
(It would be the best most accidentally!gay cover since Kid Rock and Nickelback did "Saturday Night's Alright (for Fighting)," lol. Perhaps with bonuf JTroh on lead guitar. Hmm.)
(Also, The Dudes are pretty neat. They're from Alberta.)
2. Sry Pete, that's not actually argyle. If there's no overlay/crosshatching/whatthefuckever, it's just diamonds. (Yes, if it turns out to really be argyle, I want it. Gawd.)
3. I'm working on a tattoo design that is a non-ugly revisioning of the "trans symbol." We'll see. (Lol random Hebrew character.)
4. ( random, possibly unpopular, entirely probably politically rong characterization meta. )
5. ( random spn meta, circa 'the rapture.' oh yes, i went there. )
6. Yeah, the first thing is the important one. Just, ugh. Those two on stage together would murder me. Height differences are totally my sekrit kryptonite, guys.

I kind of need to do a mix with Patrick's cover of "Tom Traubert's Blues" and Ella Fitzgerald's "Basin Street Blues." This mix is not that mix.
This mix is: I was scrolling around my iTunes, randomly clicking on things, and the first half of this mix happened. The first three songs and a few of the rest are closing tracks (including the closing track). Take that as you will.
( exanimate: destitute of animation; spiritless; disheartened. [R.] 'pale...wretch, exanimate by love.' --thomson. )

I fail at time management. Chris Pine, take me away from all this.
Happy Canada Day (ugh, I don't like nationalism, but I do love living here, and it is the best place on Earth, even if I wish the government would stop using my tax dollars to tell everybody else that so they'll relocate their corporate offices to downtown Richmond, buy a few Mercedeses for their company fleet, and lease some executive penthouses on False Creek, because BC being the best place on Earth is my personal opinion! It shouldn't be government policy! UGH, FRIENDLY CANADIAN FASCISM).

nixwilliams.
eta: Matthew Good never gets invited to Canada Day parties, because he insists upon talking about child poverty.
The end.
PS: I am looking forward to the "What a Catch" video, even though I a) don't think it should be a single (ugh, srsly, wtf), and b) the video in my head is way better than whatever nautical tomfoolery they've decided to go with (this is quite often the case with FOB videos, actually--hire me for that directation job thar, Pete!).

NEW MATTHEW GOOD, oh my gosh,
boer is my favourite person today. It's called "The Vancouver National Anthem," because he's a subtle man full of subtlety, and you can listen to it here.
( lyrics. full of subtlety. and sense-making. )
Ta da, my city. *magician hands*
It's kind of interesting how I can recognize Goodish turns of phrase now (I think I'd know this was his song from the words alone, or if you played me just the guitar riff, and that's sort of nutty and creepy), and how this song makes me think of the orchestral enormity of a lot of Avalanche, "21st Century Living" in particular--"Around here, ambition throws a non-perishable food item in the donation bin at Christmas, and then pats itself on the fucking back because it thinks it's done something decent." But it's also got the White Light/Hospital Music lyrical stream of consciousness/image-building thing going for it (granted, knowing a large part of his catalogue by heart helps to decipher things at this point, lol I have no life), and the pointed, particular guitar parts, which I'm so glad he learned how to do and which fill up so much of the Dave Genn-shaped gap (ugh Dave Genn go away).
Unspecified Date in Fall 2009 cannot come fast enough! I wants a new album, M. Good!
