Okay, so, it's done. "Melodramatic Ninny" has been renamed "Will Astrology," and you can buy it here for $5.50, or download it here for freeeeez.

Shipping is kind of overpriced, whatevs. Don't you want to cuddle my book???? *puppy eyes*

(For the love of Pete, if you read it and have a thought, tell it to me so I can change the back cover. PLS.)

(My icon seriously accurately reflects how I'm feeling about this project right now. *falls over*)

this is not a rope.
1. Uploaded some photos from the August hook pull to my FetLife profile. Going through the disc of pictures was intense and embarrassment-squicky, omg.

2. Not-a-puppy has a new stereo! It is beeyootful! I will miss the broad-faced simplicity of the factory AM/FM radio, but omfg I missed being able to belt out "TWO MORE WEE-EE-EEKS, MY FOOT IS IN THE DO-OO-OR YEAH-AH-AH!!!" on the freeway moar.

3. Mad Men marathon on Bravo this weekend. Om nom nom.

4. I only finished three stories this year, so I don't know that the end-of-year meme is really worth it.

5. You know I'm gonna do it anyway, right? Right.

6. BUT FIRST: If I didn't think it was rude, I'd probably write a silly nota!fic post about a superhero/villian AU where Pete is Alpha Dog, defender of Not!Chicago, and Patick is Omegalomaniac, his arch-nemesis, and they have completely ridiculous backstory about being a band and having a fight and stuff. Omegalomaniac is very much into designing, robbing banks to fund, and stealing parts for doomsday machines, which he never actually manages to build. Or, they're faily. Also, this girl wonder shows up (uh, Delta? Something Latin. It's Ashlee, anyway, duh) and at first she's totally being Alpha Dog's unwanted sidekick, BUT THEN...in the middle of a confrontation with Omegalomaniac, she suckerpunches AD in the head and switches sides!!! Oh my gosh! I don't know what happens after that!

Joe is the intrepid reporter who suspects--but can't bring himself to confirm--that his two best friends who don't talk to each other anymore are the city's caped crusader and dreaded evil genius. Andy is the secretly helpful beat cop/detective/chief of police (no, he is, shut up).

Alpha Dog's logo is an A with a howling wolf/dog head coming out of it, like this! )

Omegalomaniac wears a lot of suits? And ugly glasses. It's a cunning disguise!

7. ...I need some ice cream, and then some Robin McKinley. Why didn't I ask for The Hero and the Crown for Christmas? Silly BJ.

and an ipod.
1. If they weren't twenty dollars for three, and I hadn't already bought [profile] estrellada her Xmas present: mirror silhouettes (stars and swallows). Maybe for a birthday. Maybe for ME, even.

2. Sometimes I wish I had a ferreals sekrit journal for posting things I think are funny and true, but would probably just worry people I know IRL.

3. I had this corny impulse to record a voice entry of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," but, you know, the thing about impulses is that they're temporary. So have some Kermit thee Frog instead.

4. 'Kay, I was totally not in the mood for what #1 and #2 on my radio presets were playing on my way home, so I put on the Virgin Radio re-cast (with Ryan Seacrest, zomfg), and Adam Lambert was playing, and I started daydreaming about a leatherdaddy!Patrick/"Subtlety"-verse snippet where Pete changes his Patrick-specific ringtone to "For Your Entertainment," because he's a little shit and also because it's funny, and then he can't find his phone at Patrick's house one day, so Patrick calls it, and some epic D: and :||| ensue. And then I remembered I was driving and decided to focus on that instead. THE END.

5. Lololol, okay, the keyword for this icon is "and an ipod," and I just realized that I DID get an iPod for Chanukah.

...So where's my Chris Pine?

...Maybe that's my answer to the eternal "what movie should I watch??? The house and all its media are belong to MEEEE tonight" question. Since I've already taken care of the personal entertainment and made a big mess, oops, not.

6. Anyway. I'm seeing Robert Downey, Jr. Better Have a Swordcane in Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law's Fantastic Fucking Eyebrows (I watched Sleuth the other day, oh my shit) tomorrow with my big brother, and you're not, so there. Well. Maybe [personal profile] moizissimo is. With her big brother, who is probably actually related to her. Still. The vast majority of you are not doing anything resembling what I am doing tomorrow, and what I am doing tomorrow is awesome. Also, I have pre-purchased the tickets, because being prepared is awesome as well. So there. I win. \o/

1. IPOD. NEW IPOD. FOR ME. FROM IOWA. [personal profile] heyginger is the beeeeeeeeeeeeeest, and not only because she facilitated the UPS guy arriving during my party last night and inspiring many, many porn jokes, etc.

2. ...I threw a Chanukah party last night and it was fun! I would like to have company more often! Just needs to be the right kind of company, I guess.

3. Had a bit of brainfail in the middle of things. I feel terrible, but I apologized and got forgived, so I'll live.

4. The red band tattoo will be a bit like this (Supernova Remnant SN 1006), just to keep things visually interesting (the silver-platinum thread running across/along is perfect). Soon.

5. I'm taking a shower and then going to London Drugs to buy Patrick (Part Deux II) a Pelican water resistant case, hell yes.

6. But first, and lastly: bb have another slice of pie is right, jfc. I stuck with him through the puffy vests, the ill-advised scruff, and the fuck-ugly glasses. I don't think I can stay on the Stump bangwagon if he's got no cushion at all. *dismay*

looking in.
1. Is there any good Criminal Minds fic? Seriously. *despair*

2. Second curry is rather more successful: kabocha squash, carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, mushrooms, a small red chili, shallots, gaaaaarlic, coconut milk, tomato paste, and Mrs. Patak's tomato and coriander curry paste. ALL THE NOMS ARE BELONG TO ME.

3. Priority two for the new apartment is accessibility (priority one is at least in-building laundry, 'cause I'm a lazy shit, sry).

4. I'm watching s2 Everwood right now, and spent a not-inconsiderable amount of time last night looking for this Bright/Ephram fic, 'cause I just needed to read it and couldn't remember the title. Sigh. That fandom produced some quality shit, guys (I'm not talking about me, ffs).

5. "Red Heart" - Hey Rosetta!. Sort of Wintersleep-ish, but more upbeat. Were you born a closed book, full of secret lines and bound so tight? Or did you learn to lock it, as not to break your spine? Oh, you were bound so tight!

6. RIGHT, WAIT, okay, can we talk about how I'd like a novel about this photo (NSFW on account of visible erection. Also, watersports)? Sigh, sigh. *chinhand*

no strings attached.
1. Catherine's wake was last night. Jack opened an amazing, amazing circle and gave a wonderful eulogy; a beautiful, resonant group said Kaddish with Catherine's widow(er? Idk, "butch" doesn't smush in right); TTT performed a stunning piece (like getting punched in the gut, like having my heart and lungs ripped out: exactly right); and there was a landslide of music and singing and eating and drinking and not a small amount of dancing towards the end of the night. It was good.

Nothing's over, the process of loss and revival isn't finished, but it was a waymarker, a boundary stone. The fact of it has been established and the logistics of it sorted. Today the world starts learning how to be without.

2. I've been listening to a lot of the Savage Lovecast lately, and it's definitely fulfilling (or just teasing, idk) my latent "people from the American Midwest/East Coast swearing!!!" thing. Nnn. Hot.

3. I wanted to have a nap before leaving for work, but I don't think that's going to happen. Sigh. E-mailed a friend in New Mexico, did a paragraph of the LTROI AU, figured out the details of my "fried food and candles!" Chanukah party, and checked various social networking media (I don't like the future! It needs too many unique passwords!).

As long as it doesn't snow, today should be a good day.

eta: 4. The LTROI AU's title is either going to be "And I'll Take It To Mine" (which I'm eh about 'cause LTROI's vampire species isn't undead and maybe I want to save that title for the 16 Candles AU I was writing before this story ate my life) or a line from "Breaking Standing" by ¡Forward, Russia!. Thoughts?

when and where fred astaire.
1. I need a new dayplanner--my awesome school-year Harry Potter one got chocolate milk all over it and now it's gross. Also, I really need a letter-sized one, 'cause it seems like everything always happens on the same day.

2. So this is my next week:

*Saturday is apartment-viewing, grocery-shopping, and either VD or the Mr. Vancouver Leather Whatever (...both links prolly nsfw) party at the Pumpjack (but not the play party! 'Cause that's at the menz's onlie! sauna and I can't get in. Yes, I'm pouting);
*Sunday is for doing the Melodramatic Ninny layout and housework and writing some more LTROI AU;
*Monday is FREEEEEE and also House;
*Tuesday is Violence in the Workplace Central Committee meeting at work HQ in Surrey and a community meeting in Yaletown for the new New GLBTQ Centre Working Group or whatever it's called;
*Wednesday is my dad's actual birthday--taking him and my little brother out for dinner in Richmond, and then going (without them!) to Catherine's wake in East Van;
*Thursday is free thus far, so probably writing (the story is turning out less broody but more psychologically fucked up than the movie, if that makes sense);
*Friday is the union's Pride Committee Night Out! at the Speakeasy in the West End--locals should come so I don't end up hanging around with bus drivers all night; also, Chanuka begins while I'm working, bleh.

EXCITING. MY LIFE IS SO GLAMOUROUS AND EXCITING. Christ on a cracker.

3. It appears my gifted kippah got emancipated somewhere between the deserted island hook pull altar and my house. Awesome. Now I need to buy a new one. *thumbs up, universe*

4. Sigh. Sigh sigh. Good night.

can't you see that we're going to hell.
1. I watched all of Firefly (yes, even the episodes I hate!) and Serenity this weekend (because my concept of steampunk has less to do with Victorian fashion and more to do with cowboys. And spacships, I guess. Um. I'd read a Firefly steampunk AU in a heartbeat, just saying; Kaylee in goggles? Yes or yes?). My brain is sort of fried, but in a good way.

2. And then, after the movie, I downloaded [info - personal] obsessive24's brilliant, scary-awesome, sort of subversive Mal/River vid "Body," because it's all of those things I said.

3. And then I went on a bit of a spree and discovered they'd also done an SPN s1-4 vid to MGB's "Fall of Man" (embedded in linked entry; Dean and Castiel character stuff and Dean/Castiel, but not romantical-like), and then I watched that, and then I died. It's so good (because it's one of my favourite MGB songs, and because Nicky is stupid talented, and because it's like nine different things I could never put into meta, and because the Ayn Rand bit they quote is one of the reasons I can't completely write off Ayn Rand). SIGH.

(There's an older SPN vid by somebody else to that song, but it's kind of iffy and hurts my soul, so.)

4. Last night, I had a really tasty scene and a half, and I got to watch my favourite hot brother in a really short skirt (and hold her sword-cane, yay), so, you know, my life is pretty awesome at the mo. *smug smile*

(I just decided I need a shirt that says "my brother is hotter than yours," and then realized at least two reasons why that's a terrible idea. Serves me right for being smug, I guess. *facepalm*)

5. To make my life more awesome, I need to answer a couple of e-mails (for work/union and volunteer shenanigans), and schedule some cuddling and negotiation timez sometime next week. Woot.

That is all! I've been informed that there's a Spencer Reid on my TV, so I should go attend to that.

tea?
1. Oh, dude, UK Mac/PC commercials. The later ones are the best. "The Naughty Step" is my faaaaaavourite.

2. I've decided to go for Lulu with Melodramatic Ninny (the poetry collection I've been "working" on for about five years now). I'll throw it up, people can do whatever, and then when I have the time and money, I'll make copies by hand.

3. That said--does anybody want to read some stuff and give me a cover blurb? The text box on the back cover is fucking huge, and I'm not filling it up talking about myself or my writing.

4. Guiyaki Mate is good shit, but way too fine for my tea ball. Gritty tea gives BJ sadfaces :(((

5. OH HEY GUYS, I found a puppy hankie at the craft store yesterday :D

6. Enough dithering! I have things to do today!!! Steampunk things!

eta: 7. One last dither: "Barbie Eat a Sandwich" - Care Bears on Fire. Oh my god, adorable. The singer has braces. *___*

Updating for the sake of it? I have a lot of things to do in the meat world, and I don't want to do any of them (not because they are unpleasant, but because I just generally don't like doing things), but the internet is failing at distraction (thanks!).

Oh, wait, these things:

+Sainthood is amazing;
+I bought the makings of a Chanukiya yesterday, whoo;
+I'm andchimeras at AO3, with BJ Garrett, allcanadiangirl, thepurpleswitch, and azurejay as registered pseuds. I think that's all of them, anyway. No works yet (see above, re: general dislike of doing things);
+Butchmilf is the cooking video blog of a friend of a friend of a friend, and she is adoooooorable. Also, informative!

And a question: if the tattoo I want to get is a ridiculously simple colour band around one arm, do I need to go to the Best People Evars, or would the Generally Highly-Recommended (Just Not By My Bodymod Guru) Folks be okay?

can has a patrick on his tb sho.
BND WAS AT MY HOUSE WHEN I GOT HOME and Rafael waited a whole half-hour before he told me!!! I was tempted to not hide under his porch anymore, but then he made me dinner, so that's all right.

Tomorrow I'm going to buy a frame for my poster. Right now I'm ripping the CD, and then I'm going to watch the video commentaries, and I'm sure there will be entirely obnoxious squee at some point (Patrick. Patrick Vaughn Stump. I find your self-conscious pretention utterly precious. How did you steal my BS-o-meter and when can I have it back? I need it for real life things). Sorry in advance (also to my yoga class on Sunday, who might have to witness me doing asanas in the t-shirt. At least it's not as loud as the Hemmy faces one?).

For now, I wanted to mention one thing I noticed just flipping through the liner notes: go here (my RPF site), check the banner, note what everybody's shirts say, and then go here (yes, it's the same picture. I can't find my fullsize of the original). Y SO NCSSARY, PSHOP? *curious/confused hands*

Anyway. My day was otherwise uneventful. I often think my life is really boring and I don't have anything to do, but as soon as I try to add stuff, or schedule a cuddle/movie, I have no spare time whatsoever.

ALSO, LASTLY, I look terrible in yellow, but I'm going to make a Junior Wildnerness Explorer uniform anyway. BADGES FOR ACTUALLY USELESS THINGS, YES.

Also! I want to see Inside Hana's Suitcase this weekend. It's playing at Fifth Avenue tomorrow and Sunday afternoons. Anybody interested?

And, and! The Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre is having an exhibit about Canada and the 1936 Summer Olympics. If it wasn't horrible, it'd be funny. "More Than Just Games" is the title, for awesomesauce.

Anyway. I had a pretty good weekend, and I will probably talk some more about that tomorrowish.

1. I feel a lot better, thanks guys. (A SNUGGLE OF OTTERS. Patrick hopping around and cocking his hips and thiiiiings! And an apocryphal Peter Griffin impression, oh my god. A man of many talents, he sort of is one.)

2. "Pony Boy" - Matthew Good Band. Circa Audio of Being. NOM NOM NOM.

3. There are two things I would like from the world right now:

a) a DVD of Let the Right One In so I can do a proper outline for the AU I'm writing (WHAT? What. Leave me alone. Everybody has to write at least one vampire story; it's in the contract you signed when you got your first ff.n account);

b) someone who has seen LTROI, and is FOB-oriented, and who lives here--for the facilitation of actualfax handholding--who can tell me if I'm doing this horribly wrong;

c) ...okay, three things. A copy of Robert Graysmith's first book about the Zodiac. This has nothing to do with the preceding items, I just really want to read it.

d) And a beer. This one is actually doable, except that I have to be up and driving a bus in not a very long time. OH WELL, it can wait until tomorrow night.

4. Later gator!

greater than or equal to wentzface.
1. Awesome Patrick picsmap. Patricks of many eras and sizes, various states of shaven- and unshaven-ness, bespectacled and spectacleless, avec Pete and sans Pete, in flared jeans and skinny, in t-shirts and sweater vests and the godawful other things he wears, adorable and grumpy and ridiculous and singing and playing guitar and hot and lovely. He's wearing bear ears in one shot.

2. True Porn Clerk Stories brightened my afternoon considerably. (Supervising vacation booking is boooooring.)

3. Rafael and I are welcoming a new addition to our family tomorrow, hopefully. I'm sure the vast majority of you will find it far less momentous and adorable than I do (no, it's not alive, and I doubt it's macro-able, sorry).

4. I love my dad a lot. I'm going to buy him the new Discworld book for Christmas.

6. Lee Harrington taught me about "love languages" (I prefer to call them "ways in which people express their regard for one another," but I suppose that's less catchy, isn't it), and I've been trying to incorporate the theory for the last few weeks. I think it's helping me feel more connected to people, and more like I am actually able to please people. And it's helping me express my own needs better--to myself, mostly and firstly--and appreciate the ways other people express their regard for me.

Idk. Basically, I don't know how to relate to people and that's actually starting to bother me, so I'm doing something about it.

could you brush it off for me?

laying down sometimes helps.
1. Matthew would like to know if we want him to not sign autographs at all, or sign autographs WITHOUT HUGGING SRY!!! after the shows on tour next month. Because he has an atrocious immune system and just got over pneumonia, but also has a long-(long-long-long-)standing tradition of doing hxc meet&greets at his bus after shows.

He's so, so dumb, oh my god. (eta: MG.org blog entry edited.)

2. I need an "...BUT I AM NOT YOUR PARENT." icon, or something. For when I feel compelled to give people common sense advice they're not gonna fucking follow anyway. Such as: don't fucking greet the germ-ridden public outside, at night when it is cold, at the onset of flu season (which includes, for extra spice, a superflu designed to kill you with ninja-stealth), when you're recovering from pneumonia. And when you're obviously not going to quit smoking again. And when you get sick every fucking fall, winter, and spring. BUT I AM NOT YOUR PARENT. Never mind me.

3. I feel maybe a lot of conversations in my life would go much faster if I had that on a t-shirt, actually. If we put the appropriate logo on it, I could even wear it to work. Awesomesauce.

4. I made kickass tacos last night. Let it be known: I make amazing fucking tacos.

5. Did not get picked for a jury today. I'm kind of sad about it. I'm such a nerd. (Typo: suck a nerd. Yes, that too.)

6. I've been listening to a lot of Jay-Z lately? The Black Album and the new one, mostly, because I'm generally allergic to concept albums (except for MCR and MG/B), even when they involve Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe (goddamn, I need to get that movie on DVD).

7. I'm embroiled in something messy and complicated with either "FUCKING AMAZING!!! \o/" outcome or "...shit, that was a stupid thing to do, dude" outcome (this sentence could also apply to current season of SPN, y/n?). I'm doing surprisingly well, anxiety-wise, mostly because, for reals, I have good friends (and family) who want me to have nice things. Also, being [info]estrellada's brother has taught me quite a bit about rolling with situations where the outcome ratio is equal parts amazing:stupidity.

Good night, stars bright.

Artist on Artist: Daryl Hall and Patrick Vaughn Stump

Posted: to MySpace here. Filmed sometime last summer.

Patrick: Hey what's up, MySpace; I'm Patrick Vaughn Stump, I'm in a band called Fall Out Boy, and I'm here with Daryl Hall, and you are watching "Artist on Artist." [nb: looool "artist on artist".]

[Cheesy intro animation including microbios. "Daryl Hall: the 'rock and soul' icon has built on his hit-making career to find true staying power. myspace.com/hallandoates." "Patrick Stump: the Fall Out Boy frontman, music composer, and rhythm guitarist has expaned [sic] into producing other bands too. myspace.com/falloutboy."]

Daryl: So Pat--so, as a musician, what kind of things move you to write mu--what moves you to write songs?

Daryl Hall says 'motherfucker' at one point. Seriously. )

That was so awesome and so awkward at the same time, what. Also, I looked for Patrick on Live From Daryl's House and didn't see the episode. Maybe it's to-be-added or something. *SHRUG*

selling out is the most fun.
1. For someone who's a pretty dedicated pacifist, I sure do like weapons a lot. [Insert paper on eroticization of the politically forbidden in North American culture, blahblahblahBLAH.]

2. I'm doing a transcript of Patrick and Daryl Hall's MySpace "Artist on Artist" interview (lol, "artist on artist"). It's pretty hilarious, in many ways. I'll be done shortly and post this afternoon, with a DL link for the interview video as well.

3. Last night I dreamed I wrote an AU where there was no FOB, and Patrick and Pete formed an audio/visual art partnership called STUNTZ. With nutty installation pieces and graffiti and stupid pranks and hoaxes and ridiculous in-joke t-shirts, etc. Somebody should totally write that. Or, alternatively, make it be reality.

dungeon momitor.
Whenever I consume a non-Earth-based "future of humanity"-type scifi/specfic thing (BSG, Firefly, Space: Above and Beyond, etc. etc.), I like to pretend that the new worlds and civilizations were discovered because of the stargate network (and/or intelligence derived therefrom). I wish I had the patience, imagination, and self-confidence for committed writing in any of those fandoms, because duuuude. Best crossover(s) ever.

Anyway. Working my way through S:AAB on DVD. I totally forgot I shipped Vansen/Hawkes the first time I watched this. Lol my secret het past. ALSO, my thing for authority figure/subordinate relationships goes back further than I thought, see: McQueen/Hawkes (n'aww, science experiments in love).

...So, yeah. In current fandom news, which people might actually care about, I'm on the fence regarding this idea about doing a sex- and kink-positive challenge/meme where the positivity must be of a certain kind and is enforced and mandatory, etc. I mean, totally go have whatever challenge/meme you want to have, and if it's encouraging well-written sex- and kink-positive fic, that's totally awesome.

this got kind of long and text-blocky and really has nothing to do with the first part of the entry. so. cut! )

I think I'd rather do another iteration of [info]sosodirty, to be completely honest. *shifty eyes*
