1. I Twittered and Facebooked LJ's genderfail, because I knew I'd be preaching/outreaching to the choir if I wrote about it here. But, yes, fail. At least there is backpedalling--for now.
(I read a comment on a friend's LJ from someone who's like, "Eh. This doesn't bother me." And I was so enraged. I just. GENDER RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS, GUYS. Yes, you have privilege, you identify as one of the two proffered options--that doesn't mean the lack of other options isn't harmful to you! Also! You have the right to keep your gender to yourself!!! Christ on a cracker! Exclamation points!!!)
2. [Self-bashing rhetoric redacted. Placeholder for future reference.]
3. People who've decided I don't like them and I'm going to try to screw them over, and then ask me for advise or clarification on things, and then get all het up no matter what I say/do can go suck on a lemon. A crate of fuckin' lemons.
4. I'm reading some Agatha Christie short stories. She was totally a closet romance writer. ♥

4. HAPPILY, the 'rents are going to give me Best Buy giftcards for Christmas, so I can put a proper fucking stereo in Not-a-puppy (he came with an AM/FM radio, and that's it, and it's driving me nuts), which means no more geedee radio commercials. Also, an aux-in jack, whee.

1. I watched all of Firefly (yes, even the episodes I hate!) and Serenity this weekend (because my concept of steampunk has less to do with Victorian fashion and more to do with cowboys. And spacships, I guess. Um. I'd read a Firefly steampunk AU in a heartbeat, just saying; Kaylee in goggles? Yes or yes?). My brain is sort of fried, but in a good way.
2. And then, after the movie, I downloaded
obsessive24's brilliant, scary-awesome, sort of subversive Mal/River vid "Body," because it's all of those things I said.
3. And then I went on a bit of a spree and discovered they'd also done an SPN s1-4 vid to MGB's "Fall of Man" (embedded in linked entry; Dean and Castiel character stuff and Dean/Castiel, but not romantical-like), and then I watched that, and then I died. It's so good (because it's one of my favourite MGB songs, and because Nicky is stupid talented, and because it's like nine different things I could never put into meta, and because the Ayn Rand bit they quote is one of the reasons I can't completely write off Ayn Rand). SIGH.
(There's an older SPN vid by somebody else to that song, but it's kind of iffy and hurts my soul, so.)
4. Last night, I had a really tasty scene and a half, and I got to watch my favourite hot brother in a really short skirt (and hold her sword-cane, yay), so, you know, my life is pretty awesome at the mo. *smug smile*
(I just decided I need a shirt that says "my brother is hotter than yours," and then realized at least two reasons why that's a terrible idea. Serves me right for being smug, I guess. *facepalm*)
5. To make my life more awesome, I need to answer a couple of e-mails (for work/union and volunteer shenanigans), and schedule some cuddling and negotiation timez sometime next week. Woot.
That is all! I've been informed that there's a Spencer Reid on my TV, so I should go attend to that.

dragojustine: MYTHBUSTERS FIC. "Straight Man" by

3. This post concerns the death of Rafael's football team's goalkeeper. R's had a pretty shitty week because this happened (idk, Europeans and football), and it was really strange to see it pop up on M.Good's blog. WE ARE ALL CONNECTED. Or something.
4. The 4632 (not a "The 4400" spoof. Though it totally should be). My name is in there, somewhere off to the right, near the edge. I don't know why (theories abound as to where they got the names from, and I did sign up in the last two rounds of shenanigans, but there are a lot of people included who didn't, so), but the why is less important than the fact that FOB stole my cool again. ( This makes five times I've seen him, and I'm still on the fence about the solo vs. band thing. My life is hard. )
Overall, not the worst show I've ever been to, but not his best ever. He looked like shit, but also like he was having a lot of fun, so. Idk. B+++, would see again.

2. I will not read the lyrics for "From Now On We Are Enemies." I WILL NOT. This is the last new FOB there will be for a very long time (ever, even), and I'm not fucking spoiling myself for it!!! Dammit.
3.
kanata is awesome and now I have LTROI on my computron, and ugh. Pretty movie is pretty. I can't even get over the use of the snow and subtle audio and stark font on the opening credits to create a liminal space (never mind pointing out how I'm all about liminal spaces right now).

1. Matthew would like to know if we want him to not sign autographs at all, or sign autographs WITHOUT HUGGING SRY!!! after the shows on tour next month. Because he has an atrocious immune system and just got over pneumonia, but also has a long-(long-long-long-)standing tradition of doing hxc meet&greets at his bus after shows.
He's so, so dumb, oh my god. (eta: MG.org blog entry edited.)
2. I need an "...BUT I AM NOT YOUR PARENT." icon, or something. For when I feel compelled to give people common sense advice they're not gonna fucking follow anyway. Such as: don't fucking greet the germ-ridden public outside, at night when it is cold, at the onset of flu season (which includes, for extra spice, a superflu designed to kill you with ninja-stealth), when you're recovering from pneumonia. And when you're obviously not going to quit smoking again. And when you get sick every fucking fall, winter, and spring. BUT I AM NOT YOUR PARENT. Never mind me.
3. I feel maybe a lot of conversations in my life would go much faster if I had that on a t-shirt, actually. If we put the appropriate logo on it, I could even wear it to work. Awesomesauce.
4. I made kickass tacos last night. Let it be known: I make amazing fucking tacos.
5. Did not get picked for a jury today. I'm kind of sad about it. I'm such a nerd. (Typo: suck a nerd. Yes, that too.)
6. I've been listening to a lot of Jay-Z lately? The Black Album and the new one, mostly, because I'm generally allergic to concept albums (except for MCR and MG/B), even when they involve Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe (goddamn, I need to get that movie on DVD).
7. I'm embroiled in something messy and complicated with either "FUCKING AMAZING!!! \o/" outcome or "...shit, that was a stupid thing to do, dude" outcome (this sentence could also apply to current season of SPN, y/n?). I'm doing surprisingly well, anxiety-wise, mostly because, for reals, I have good friends (and family) who want me to have nice things. Also, being
estrellada's brother has taught me quite a bit about rolling with situations where the outcome ratio is equal parts amazing:stupidity.

2. A recent post on Matthew Good's blog: "Gotcha Gone." Who wants to be a millionaire? Who's a bachelor or bachelorette? Who has eight kids and wants to put them on television so the world can watch your family fall apart? [...] We're in business. Doesn't matter which business, but we're in it. Blowing yourself up's a business, just like growing fruit. Blowing up people that blow themselves up's a business and so is eliminating those that stand in the way of Chiquita. I'm trying to find a car to rent for my trip in October, but the reasonably-priced place with a drop-off location in Prince Rupert (I'd drive up there, leave the car, take the ferry back) doesn't seem to have any cars on the days I need one. I'm pretty sure it's a system error, because every single location in Vancouver cannot possibly be rented out on October 5, but seriously.

5. Oh my gosh tomorrow and Wednesday are the union bylaws convention. IT'S GONNA BE A PARTY with lots of misogyny and general old boys' club fail. But also free lunch! Whoo! *\o/*

So, this is the guy who'll be directing the video for "Great Whales of the Sea," from Vancouver, which will apparently not be a single (yeah, no, I agree with that decision). Idk, guys. I'm largely unimpressed. Which is not to say that Mr. Cudmore isn't good, he's certainly got an atmospheric aesthetic I can appreciate, just that his video for The National's "Fake Empire" was probably his best one (what he did for Sloan comes a close second, though), and it's still (nearly) entirely peopled by young, attractive, heteronormative white folks. GAH.
Anyway. I really have to go do something about my laundry now. Bye!

Added to the list of things that are making me flail today:
Vancouver is streaming on the intronets from today until it drops on October 6.
:D :D :D :D :D
(The collage pigeon/crow thing makes me so freakin happy, oh my gosh.)
(Highlights from the rest of the list: the thing at work this morning; today's PostSecret; Pete's Twitter; "Document"--I wish I didn't have to label it Pete/Patrick, 'cause I think the surprise is kind of nice. Not that any of it is much a surprise, two years later, but still.)

1. "Last Parade," the first single from Vancouver, is streaming here (I question Matthew's avowed dedication to the piano when he uses such a shitty-sounding fake one, tbh; also, you can really hear the change in his voice since he's taken up smoking again--much moreso than on Hospital Music; otherwise, ♥♥♥). The album is out October 6, whee! Of course I'm out of town that week, but still. \o/

2. The most recent post on MatthewGood.org is a TRMS clip about Republican, far-right, corporate-funded intimidation in the US healthcare reform fight. Ugh, it makes me mad.
3. I had a dream the other night that I wanted to share with everybody, because it was really weird and interesting, but now I can't remember what it was. Oh well.
4. BJ's Succinct & Awesome Movie Revue for District 9: Huh. That was pretty cool. I am, coincidentally, re-reading Schindler's List right now (what? Doesn't everyone compulsively re-read books about the Shoah?), so I have a lot of thinkity thoughts about things but they have no place in a succinct movie review. One major facet of the ending doesn't make a lot of sense to me, and I'm not sure I trust the filmmakers enough to have made the right decision on it. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it thoroughly. This movie has deep roots in my favourite kinds of scifi/specfic, and I loves it.
5. Hokay, time to get going. I have a union meeting in a little bit, and then I have to pick my work for September through December. WHOO.

I fail at time management. Chris Pine, take me away from all this.
Happy Canada Day (ugh, I don't like nationalism, but I do love living here, and it is the best place on Earth, even if I wish the government would stop using my tax dollars to tell everybody else that so they'll relocate their corporate offices to downtown Richmond, buy a few Mercedeses for their company fleet, and lease some executive penthouses on False Creek, because BC being the best place on Earth is my personal opinion! It shouldn't be government policy! UGH, FRIENDLY CANADIAN FASCISM).

nixwilliams.
eta: Matthew Good never gets invited to Canada Day parties, because he insists upon talking about child poverty.
The end.
PS: I am looking forward to the "What a Catch" video, even though I a) don't think it should be a single (ugh, srsly, wtf), and b) the video in my head is way better than whatever nautical tomfoolery they've decided to go with (this is quite often the case with FOB videos, actually--hire me for that directation job thar, Pete!).

NEW MATTHEW GOOD, oh my gosh,
boer is my favourite person today. It's called "The Vancouver National Anthem," because he's a subtle man full of subtlety, and you can listen to it here.
( lyrics. full of subtlety. and sense-making. )
Ta da, my city. *magician hands*
It's kind of interesting how I can recognize Goodish turns of phrase now (I think I'd know this was his song from the words alone, or if you played me just the guitar riff, and that's sort of nutty and creepy), and how this song makes me think of the orchestral enormity of a lot of Avalanche, "21st Century Living" in particular--"Around here, ambition throws a non-perishable food item in the donation bin at Christmas, and then pats itself on the fucking back because it thinks it's done something decent." But it's also got the White Light/Hospital Music lyrical stream of consciousness/image-building thing going for it (granted, knowing a large part of his catalogue by heart helps to decipher things at this point, lol I have no life), and the pointed, particular guitar parts, which I'm so glad he learned how to do and which fill up so much of the Dave Genn-shaped gap (ugh Dave Genn go away).
Unspecified Date in Fall 2009 cannot come fast enough! I wants a new album, M. Good!
