1. IPOD. NEW IPOD. FOR ME. FROM IOWA. [personal profile] heyginger is the beeeeeeeeeeeeeest, and not only because she facilitated the UPS guy arriving during my party last night and inspiring many, many porn jokes, etc.

2. ...I threw a Chanukah party last night and it was fun! I would like to have company more often! Just needs to be the right kind of company, I guess.

3. Had a bit of brainfail in the middle of things. I feel terrible, but I apologized and got forgived, so I'll live.

4. The red band tattoo will be a bit like this (Supernova Remnant SN 1006), just to keep things visually interesting (the silver-platinum thread running across/along is perfect). Soon.

5. I'm taking a shower and then going to London Drugs to buy Patrick (Part Deux II) a Pelican water resistant case, hell yes.

6. But first, and lastly: bb have another slice of pie is right, jfc. I stuck with him through the puffy vests, the ill-advised scruff, and the fuck-ugly glasses. I don't think I can stay on the Stump bangwagon if he's got no cushion at all. *dismay*

the old man.
I'm alive. These things have facilitated my state of continued existence:

+Actors pose as past characters. I love. All the team/couple ones made me go "awwwwww" (or, um. Can the HP trio just come over and do me? Like. Seriously. Or we could just watch movies, either way). And Matt Damon is ridiculously amazing, even though we're on a break (dude, seriously, you don't make an American sports movie about rugby in South Africa, okay? You especially don't cast two American big-name actors as Nelson Mandela and the team captain. Hollywood: failing to learn from racefail for almost one hundred years!). Also, Sam Neill ♥.

+The Neverending Story is coming out on Blu-ray in March. \o/

+House last night was pretty good. Not enough Joshua Malina (never enough Joshua Malina!), but plenty of House And Wilson Are Married (And Wilson Needs A Therapist), so that's all right. Speaking of therapists, I miss Andre Braugher. Somebody needs to give that genius a steady job on the teevee, okay?

+If you're looking to waste a few hours of your life learning about public transit, No Fares is a really good series of articles and interviews--the whole point is advocating and proving the viability of fare-free transit (AKA: Actually Public Transit), so if you're not into that, it might not be for you. I enjoyed it, in any case.

That is all. I need to figure out what I'm getting my dad for his birthday.

can't you see that we're going to hell.
1. I watched all of Firefly (yes, even the episodes I hate!) and Serenity this weekend (because my concept of steampunk has less to do with Victorian fashion and more to do with cowboys. And spacships, I guess. Um. I'd read a Firefly steampunk AU in a heartbeat, just saying; Kaylee in goggles? Yes or yes?). My brain is sort of fried, but in a good way.

2. And then, after the movie, I downloaded [info - personal] obsessive24's brilliant, scary-awesome, sort of subversive Mal/River vid "Body," because it's all of those things I said.

3. And then I went on a bit of a spree and discovered they'd also done an SPN s1-4 vid to MGB's "Fall of Man" (embedded in linked entry; Dean and Castiel character stuff and Dean/Castiel, but not romantical-like), and then I watched that, and then I died. It's so good (because it's one of my favourite MGB songs, and because Nicky is stupid talented, and because it's like nine different things I could never put into meta, and because the Ayn Rand bit they quote is one of the reasons I can't completely write off Ayn Rand). SIGH.

(There's an older SPN vid by somebody else to that song, but it's kind of iffy and hurts my soul, so.)

4. Last night, I had a really tasty scene and a half, and I got to watch my favourite hot brother in a really short skirt (and hold her sword-cane, yay), so, you know, my life is pretty awesome at the mo. *smug smile*

(I just decided I need a shirt that says "my brother is hotter than yours," and then realized at least two reasons why that's a terrible idea. Serves me right for being smug, I guess. *facepalm*)

5. To make my life more awesome, I need to answer a couple of e-mails (for work/union and volunteer shenanigans), and schedule some cuddling and negotiation timez sometime next week. Woot.

That is all! I've been informed that there's a Spencer Reid on my TV, so I should go attend to that.

tea?
1. Oh, dude, UK Mac/PC commercials. The later ones are the best. "The Naughty Step" is my faaaaaavourite.

2. I've decided to go for Lulu with Melodramatic Ninny (the poetry collection I've been "working" on for about five years now). I'll throw it up, people can do whatever, and then when I have the time and money, I'll make copies by hand.

3. That said--does anybody want to read some stuff and give me a cover blurb? The text box on the back cover is fucking huge, and I'm not filling it up talking about myself or my writing.

4. Guiyaki Mate is good shit, but way too fine for my tea ball. Gritty tea gives BJ sadfaces :(((

5. OH HEY GUYS, I found a puppy hankie at the craft store yesterday :D

6. Enough dithering! I have things to do today!!! Steampunk things!

eta: 7. One last dither: "Barbie Eat a Sandwich" - Care Bears on Fire. Oh my god, adorable. The singer has braces. *___*

if you wanna kiss the sky.
1. So Yuletide is having an amnesty year for people who've been bandinated fer defaultin in the past. I defaulted in 2006 or 2007, and I'm wibbling about signing up this year. Skimming the fandoms list, I can totally see some things I can offer as a writer, so. Idk. I kind of want to do it just to have done it, and have the slate clean so it's not this black thing hanging over my head: I had a shitty winter one time and defaulted on Yuletide oh nooooooes. You know.

Anyway.

2. If you don't know who Rachel McKibbens is, you're missing out! [info] estrellada introduced me to her a while ago with this spoken word duo piece (can I claim "dirty little stepbrother" as a role? I think that should totally be allowed!). So, yes, I Youtubed her the other day, and this piece, "Central Park, Mother's Day," actually made me cry. Nom nom, spoken word, nom nom.

3. In the real world, I am tired of getting my hopes up for people I'm not already in love with. I'm scared of doing the math to see how many hours I spent writing the rules people are already breaking. I'm looking forward to a weekend full of strangers and learning and yelling. I'm already dreading coming back next week (but it'll be better if I can actually get a ticket for MG on Tuesday). My body doesn't feel good and I know exactly what's wrong and I need to close my eyes and do what's right.

1. I feel a lot better, thanks guys. (A SNUGGLE OF OTTERS. Patrick hopping around and cocking his hips and thiiiiings! And an apocryphal Peter Griffin impression, oh my god. A man of many talents, he sort of is one.)

2. "Pony Boy" - Matthew Good Band. Circa Audio of Being. NOM NOM NOM.

3. There are two things I would like from the world right now:

a) a DVD of Let the Right One In so I can do a proper outline for the AU I'm writing (WHAT? What. Leave me alone. Everybody has to write at least one vampire story; it's in the contract you signed when you got your first ff.n account);

b) someone who has seen LTROI, and is FOB-oriented, and who lives here--for the facilitation of actualfax handholding--who can tell me if I'm doing this horribly wrong;

c) ...okay, three things. A copy of Robert Graysmith's first book about the Zodiac. This has nothing to do with the preceding items, I just really want to read it.

d) And a beer. This one is actually doable, except that I have to be up and driving a bus in not a very long time. OH WELL, it can wait until tomorrow night.

4. Later gator!

Packing is fun, guys! Geez. Why didn't anyone ever tell me? I can't wait to do this shit when I've got my good binder back from the laundry.

In other news, pictures of the not-a-puppy:

greater than or equal to wentzface.
1. Awesome Patrick picsmap. Patricks of many eras and sizes, various states of shaven- and unshaven-ness, bespectacled and spectacleless, avec Pete and sans Pete, in flared jeans and skinny, in t-shirts and sweater vests and the godawful other things he wears, adorable and grumpy and ridiculous and singing and playing guitar and hot and lovely. He's wearing bear ears in one shot.

2. True Porn Clerk Stories brightened my afternoon considerably. (Supervising vacation booking is boooooring.)

3. Rafael and I are welcoming a new addition to our family tomorrow, hopefully. I'm sure the vast majority of you will find it far less momentous and adorable than I do (no, it's not alive, and I doubt it's macro-able, sorry).

4. I love my dad a lot. I'm going to buy him the new Discworld book for Christmas.

6. Lee Harrington taught me about "love languages" (I prefer to call them "ways in which people express their regard for one another," but I suppose that's less catchy, isn't it), and I've been trying to incorporate the theory for the last few weeks. I think it's helping me feel more connected to people, and more like I am actually able to please people. And it's helping me express my own needs better--to myself, mostly and firstly--and appreciate the ways other people express their regard for me.

Idk. Basically, I don't know how to relate to people and that's actually starting to bother me, so I'm doing something about it.

Artist on Artist: Daryl Hall and Patrick Vaughn Stump

Posted: to MySpace here. Filmed sometime last summer.
Download: here. 88MB .mp4, not zipped.
Warning: There are a couple of editorial comments. Because I'm an opinionated fuck, not a professional transcriptionist.

Patrick: Hey what's up, MySpace; I'm Patrick Vaughn Stump, I'm in a band called Fall Out Boy, and I'm here with Daryl Hall, and you are watching "Artist on Artist." [nb: looool "artist on artist".]

[Cheesy intro animation including microbios. "Daryl Hall: the 'rock and soul' icon has built on his hit-making career to find true staying power. myspace.com/hallandoates." "Patrick Stump: the Fall Out Boy frontman, music composer, and rhythm guitarist has expaned [sic] into producing other bands too. myspace.com/falloutboy."]

Daryl: So Pat--so, as a musician, what kind of things move you to write mu--what moves you to write songs?

Daryl Hall says 'motherfucker' at one point. Seriously. )

That was so awesome and so awkward at the same time, what. Also, I looked for Patrick on Live From Daryl's House and didn't see the episode. Maybe it's to-be-added or something. *SHRUG*

[info] anna_would showed me this video the other day, and to quote Neil deGrasse Tyson, it makes me want to grab people in the street and shake them and say, "Have you heard this?"

buy anything but can't buy backbone.
1. I live! Uh. Ate way too much in celebration of Occupation Day, and had a bottle of rum stolen by my "chosen" cousin (scare quotes 'cause our mothers are the ones who chose, not us). FAMILY. So amazing.

Did you know you can make pie from carrots? And it tastes and looks just like punkin pie? For reals! It's pretty awesome.

2. Okay, I just listened to the full/updated version of "Alpha Dog," and it's gonna take a few more tries, I think. Also, can we (not, actually) discuss how including a lock of a certain dude's (whose name starts with "P" and ends with "ete Wentz") hair in the Super Deluxe Vibrating Edition of the greatest hits collection is creepy as fuck? Christ on a cracker. Never change, Fall Out Boys. Never change. *facepalm*

3. Lastly, because I have to go to bed in a second, I re-found an amazing semi-old skool-sounding Canadian hiphop track and I wish I could buy it somewhere (iTunes faaaaail). Ugh. Love this song. "Great Minds" - DJ Murge with Ishkan and Just B. "If you didn't want it, motherfucker, what you asking it for?"

hustlers ftw.
I think sometimes that I want to put out an APB for the rest of Patrick, and I worry that he disappeared kind of suddenly, but then I remember that he went vegan "for health reasons" last winter, hi, and I'm like, "Yeah, that's actually not a bad timeline." Because when you're that short (this short, lol), you only have to change your shape a little bit to make a big difference, and a year for that little bit? Is totally fine.

missing: the squishy bits of my favourite boy. )

And then, seriously, it's like, "He looks like a wee teenager again, gah!" I was happy he didn't look seventeen anymore, because bb!Patrick makes me feel like a dirty old man (I'm not even a year older than he is!), so.

In conclusion: my life is hard, guys, and I need this organizer thing really a lot. Or maybe this one. Anyway.

Gay Top Gun. No, seriously. I watched Dr. Horrible's for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and was underwhelmed (by the content; NPH and Fillion were amazing, because they just are). This shit? Fucking awesome. I especially love that they use an incredible amount of original dialogue (and the "In the Navy" bits are hi-larious). Warning for Ice Man/Maverick shippers: this adaptation stays true to canon, sry.

let me see your moves.
Origins of the Journey cover (at the veeery end, sry), with bonuf once-in-a-lifetime video of a FOB practise (at Fuck City, no less), and said Journey cover (assisted by Bden; shitty audio quality/damn hot PVStump alert).

All I'm saying is, the more video I see of them, the more I would totally add Pete/MHoppus to my list of things I'd read, if there were any (the void is probably a good thing, though). I would've said that in my comment on the ICH post, but Pete is lurking again and I'm just not in the mood.

Anyway, I have to go to work again now. Ugh. Why does this happen almost every day?

(I have Saturday off, though!!! Eee!!!)

eta: Oh my gosh wtf, I just noticed I credited thepurpleswitch on an SN icon I use on LJ. I don't even remember making that decision. It's pretty funny, I guess; lolmybrain.

god's own prozac.
1. I want to save like a million baby!Patrick pictures from this bundle, but after the first one (...the red t-shirt? Yes? You know which one I mean? Okay, awesome), I felt like such a creeper. Am I growing backwards out of RPF or something? Idk, guys. If this is the case, I have nowhere to go, what will I do.

2. BJ's Awesome & Succinct Movie Revue for Funny People: oh my shit, Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen. Just go fuck already. Jesus Christ. Also, I think I laughed so hard I peed, a little.

3. At one point during the movie, I was like, "These people are doing annoying, stupid things, and yet I like them and wish them success in life. Wtf?" I think if I understood that, I'd understand why I write the way I do. It probably has to do with genuine human emotion and that kind of bullshit.

4. I feel there should be a lot of fic for this movie? There totally won't be, but I want there to be. Lots and lots of it (or just one or two really, really amazing epic ones--I'd be okay with that, too). I would write it, but I'm not actually funny enough. I can't write funny things on purpose, it doesn't work. MY PROSSESS IS SPESHEL.

5. My younger brother is actually turning into a pretty cool dude. I think I can safely say I had nothing to do with that.

Oh my gosh, this is the best thing ever since HCT. It makes me so fucking happy, for no particular reason.

fall out boy vs. south korea vs. the giant spider. )

In other news, I am trying to get up the nerve to post what I have of "Praise You." The ending is so bad, you guys. It's just awful. Really terrible. Whatever, whatever. At least we're having pizza for dinner and I have an advising appointment at SFU's night school department next week and I found an [info]undeconstructed to possibly/probably hang out with after the hook pull in a few weeks. MISSIONS PARTIALLY ACCOMPLISHED.

Oh hey, I Tivoed this Tin Man mini-series thing, 'cause I really love adaptations of Baum's series (the original is for shit though, I'm not even kidding you--it's like Peter Pan, okay). Is it worth watching? It has that oddly attractive guy, hm.

1. Post ten pictures currently on your hard drive that you think are self-expressive.
2. NO CAPTIONS! It must be like we're speaking with images and we have to interpret your visual language just like we have to interpret your words.
3. They must ALREADY be on your hard drive - no Googling or Flickr! They have to have been saved to your folders sometime in the past. They must be something you've saved there because it resonated with you for some reason.
4. You do NOT have to answer any questions about any of your pictures if you don't want to. You can make them as mysterious as you like. Or you can explain them away as much as you like.
